Fukushima Diary: Japanese Political Official Trying to Stop Citizen Radiation Measuring

http://fukushima-diary.com/2011/09/breaking-news-japanese-govs-trying-to-stop-citizen-measuring-radiation/

[excerpted] "On this morning’s NHK “Sunday Debate” program, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Secretary-General Nobuteru Ishihara stated, “Geiger counters costing between 40,000 and 50,000 yen ($500-600) provide patchy measurements. We have to try and stop citizens from taking their own radiation measurements.” ...

MAJIA HERE: It is interesting to try and compare Fukushima's contamination of Japan with other areas that have been contaminated by nuclear testing.

I found this article on the subject of radioactive contamination from nuclear testing and DU titled:

"Site Restoration and Cleanup of Contaminated Areas" by Gordon Linsley of the INTERNATIONAL ATOMIC ENERGY AGENCY in Vienna Austria
http://irpa11.irpa.net/pdfs/KL-6b.pdf

The article states that residents' exposure from eating contaminated food in Bikini Atoll totaled 15 millisieverts a year as an "annual effective dose" (page 3 of 9).
The article notes that the "international reference level for aiding intervention decisions" is set at 10millisieverts a year and that number includes radiation from natural sources.
Japan has said that 100 millisieverts a year is "safe" and now wants to ban citizen monitoring.
What kind of terrible nightmare world are we in?
