WSJ: "Japan Tallies Upheaval's Toll"

[excerpt] "A government panel estimates Teco will have to pay [in yen] 4.5 trillion in compensation by the accident's second anniversary in March 2003. That figure could eventually grow by 'several trillion yen,' according to Standard and Poor's analyst Hiroki Shibata.

'The scope of what will be covered by compensation is still very much undefined' he added....

[a resident] estimates that fewer than 150 of Odaka's 7,300 households have agreed with Tepco's assessment of their claims and received payments for basic expenses related to evacuation..."
